SCROLLING SUCKS (us in)
The scrolling culture sucks us in and holds our brains hostage using our dopamine centers by offering unlimited hits of instant feel good possibilities. If we like something we keep watching, if we don’t we keep scrolling. When we are finished with the one we like, we keep scrolling. No timer, no one watching or reminding us to limit ourselves, except ourselves; and we all know how that has been going!
When you are caught in this cycle, you are most likely NOT Floating Sideways, and probably missing some really great life’s moments.
If your brain is already anticipating the next swipe instead of focusing on what is currently in front of you, you will also find that in time you start doing the same thing to the PEOPLE in front of you . You will see them, but you don’t really SEE them because maybe what they are saying is boring and your brain is already scrolling to the next person or subject, totally dismissing the actual person that is standing in front of you trying to interact.
I’ve seen this often. You are only half listening by the distant look in your eyes, and by your fragmented responses to their questions or curiosities.
You are training your brain to scroll even when you are not on your devices!!!
Unlike boring videos or posts, though, every human you interact with matters.
So as you are traveling down the River of Life each day, please pull out of scrolling mode and truly pay attention to the other human(s) on the river with you. The server at a restaurant, your neighbor in the yard next door, and your family and friends; even if they are ‘boring'.
Unlike ‘boring’ videos or posts, the human in front of you is REAL, the one you can actually reach out and touch. But not forever.
