Free Thinking in a Thoughtless World

In my mind,

it too often feels as though there is not enough thoughtfulness in our increasingly chaotic and questionably more hostile world today.

Whether it be consideration for others, in terms of their thoughts, feelings, perspectives or ideals, or consideration for our own well being, in ways of our individual health, the health of the climate, or even others’ health around us (our community).

How do these ideas co-exist with that seemingly more uninhabitable world?

I think taking a look at perspective is a good place to start. Introspectively observing and then if desired, changing our own perspective along with understanding the perspectives of others is key.

When contemplating thoughts and how they affect our surroundings and the people around us, perspective plays a vital role in what we think and then say about our reality. This in turn will then affect how well we are able to Float Sideways in any given moment and see what is truly there.

  • How does our own perspective affect the way we think?

  • How does it form our way of thinking and how deeply does that root run in relation to our character and what we think about ourselves and the people around us?

  • How much does our own perspective mold our personality? Or maybe even more importantly, our ideals?

For myself, I do my best to form my perspective around my perceived understanding of right and wrong, good and evil, fair and unfair.  I’ll admit that the idea of these has changed a lot over the years, especially since my formative ones. What I thought was right 10 years ago is not exactly still true today, and counter to that, what I thought wrong then is not as wrong now. All of our opinions and perspectives change, evolving from new information and new experiences; including the introduction of contradictory perspectives. The understanding that a perspective needs to have fluidity and flexibility is key to having a broader more encompassing field of view, of ourselves and the world around us.

And what does that mean in terms of Floating Sideways?

I think we can start with the foundation of what Float Sideways is and how it connects to the earlier proposed ideals.

One must Float Sideways to stay open to seeing this new information and experiencing new perspectives. Resultingly these new perspectives will actually help you Float Sideways.

Quite simply put, Float Sideways in of itself is a perspective. All the way down to it’s simplest roots, it is literally a way of thinking. It is a perception of the world around us and a decision on how we will perceive it.

Much like the concepts of positivity, realism, cynicism, negativity, and so forth, these things in a way are perceptions of the things around us. Someone who may have a more positive outlook on reality may see the potential for good in certain situations, where someone with a more negative view will see the potential for negative outcomes.

Like Float Sideways, these are perceptions of the events around us in the world we live in. They are a way of thinking just as Float Sideways is a way of thinking.

As always, feel free to email us with your questions or thoughts.

Until next time……… Float Sideways and we will see you around the bend.
