Road Rage Tactics 101

ARE YOU A RAGER?

Are you raging hard at some stranger that probably has no clue you’re pissed off? (And also probably doesn’t care either.)

Is it making you feel better? Honestly?

Want to learn to be better at Road Rage?

The key is to catching it in that moment, put a name on the feeling (NOT on the person in that other car!), and then finding what works for you to get it under control before damage is done.

A few ideas are below:

  • Turn on the radio.

  • Change the subject if you are talking to someone in your car and it’s irritating you. Or stop talking if it’s distracting you.

  • Glance around at the scenery and call out the colors you see.

  • Take a deep breath and exhale veeerrrrrry slowly.

  • Ask yourself, “Have I ever done any of these things I am getting so upset about?”

  • State some reasons why you think that person is driving slow, or why they turned quickly in front of you. (Get behind their eyes and try and see what they may have seen.)

Hopefully this will help you start on this important journey (if you haven’t already.) In today’s politically charged climate and uncertain world we all need to keep our ‘on the road’ emotions in check.

P.S. Just after I posted this I flipped someone off while trying to back out of my driveway. We are all works in progress….. lol.
