Drifting

It’s easy to Drift. Drift in your thoughts and in your actions.
It’s OK to Drift, but not aimlessly and indefinitely; that kind of drifting may lead you to a slippery slope on the banks of the River of Life.

Floating Sideways does not mean carelessly Drifting wherever life takes you. Floating Sideways is being aware of your current surroundings and acting in the best interest of yourself and others as you travel down the River of Life. There is a delicate balance between Drifting and Floating Sideways in every moment of every day of your existence. The key is true observance of yourself and others.

Phone/TV use, substance use, your communication style (or lack of) are only a handful of the dangerous obstacles you may run into if you are drifting carelessly. These will suck you into a sinkhole that will over time be difficult to escape.

It really only takes one time to start you on a Drift that may be difficult to recover from. (Notice I didn’t say Impossible)
Take time TODAY and observe yourself. Watch where you may be unexpectedly drifting.

Watch if you say to yourself:
“I’m just going to……….(watch one more episode, scroll a little longer, have one more drink, take another hit off the bong, ignore an amazingly important conversation because it’s uncomfortable for me)”

You may find you have been missing crucial interactions with key people that have been standing right in front of you, (click here for a video called Look Up)  the amazing child that is tugging on your shirt needing your attention, or fighting an all consuming addiction that can have many faces.

Pay attention and have the courage to see what is really there, or you may soon find yourself heading down unexpected rapids towards that gigantic sink hole of many faces, (often hopelessness and darkness), feeling out of control of your watercraft and subsequently out of control of your life. You and only you are in charge of how you Float down the River of Life, so

Observe those moments in your day that you tell yourself “It’s OK just this once” and proceed with your eyes wide open to yourself and your true intentions
RESIST THE DRIFT!!   ‘choose the now’
