The Dip of Discomfort
Have you ever noticed when you bump into other people on the River of Life you are relaxed and ‘yourself’ the first time you meet them?
But then when you decide you want to get together with them again (often this happens with a potential romance), you start to act differently or become uncomfortable, thinking things like;
“What should I say?”, “Oh, I hope that didn’t upset them”, or my favorite; “What should I wear?”
We call this the ‘Dip of Discomfort’.
Our solution is this:
As you are floating down the River of Life stay present, stay who you are in every moment, even in those Dips of Discomfort. Relax, say what you think and wear what you like. Who you are will eventually show itself at some point so why try to be someone else?
You can’t hide from yourself forever, and often times your ‘true’ self appears in times of crisis. It’s only fair the person(s) you’d like to have a relationship with sees all that is ‘you’ from day one, so they know what to expect when the next crisis occurs. It’s no fun to experience surprises in your teammates’ actions right when you need them the most.
Rationale: If that other person has also decided to pursue a relationship with you, they are pursuing it with you because of what they experienced the first time they met and talked with you. (Plus, it’s just easier to keep track of yourself if you remain ‘you’!)
