Float Only What’s in Front of You Today

PROCRASTINATING SOMETHING?

JUST START

Do alot of things in your life look too enormous to try and figure out?

Don’t feel alone, most other people in the world are also thinking along these same lines:

  • Wanting to do something to help someone but don’t know where to start.

  • Waking up in the morning and wishing to just stay in bed

  • Wanting to begin a difficult but important conversation with someone special but keep putting it off

What do you find yourself doing instead of focusing on what’s bothering you? Procrastinating by distracting yourself with talking or technology, or cleaning your whole house first?

You’re not alone.

Something you don’t know how to do or is uncomfortable for you can be daunting so it’s easy to keep putting it off. But putting it off just irritates you further and you end up just spinning yourself in a vicious cycle.

So what do you do? Where do you start? Your head is screaming, “But I want to make sure I start in the right place”, or “I don’t want to screw this up”, or the classic one, “I don’t have time.” If you find yourself paralyzed this way tell yourself

JUST START. Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.

Move forward even if it is the tiniest of steps. Ask a neighbor or friend what they do to get going. Roll out of bed and just make it to the sink to brush your teeth, or the coffee pot for that cup of coffee. Tell that special person you’d like to talk to them but you don’t know where to start. Maybe that daunting task has changed since you put it on your list. Re-evaluate, it might not be as daunting as when it went on your list.

Post this saying in strategic places to remind you:

DO IT, DELEGATE IT, OR DUMP IT.

Can someone else help you with this to lessen the load? Is it really worth pursuing anymore? It’s OK to change your mind, or change your plan. So start where you are at today, focusing on the one thing you can do TODAY for that project. Do it, and then set it back aside, adding a bit to it each day instead of thinking you need to finish the WHOLE project at once.

JUST START
